Renovation mansion Bussum | The renovation of this mansion, originally built in the year 1938, started with the question of the clients to redesign the house to a modern house in an efficient and contemporary way without compromising the overall spatial experience. The main idea of the renovation is visible in every single room of the house – the newly designed spaces of this old mansion smoothly flow from one room to another room and create the perfect balance between all inside areas. The crucial parts were also the views to outside and the relation between the interior and the garden around. We imagined all these parts together and reshaped the mansion to a new hi-tech design that still keeps humble and sustainability and respects the neighbourhood.

The “Rolls Royce” – as you can see the windows have a very thin steel frame that fits this renovation the best. It has really good insulation value and the best esthetic appearance, perfect for this project.

Program and function | The ground floor plays the game with different feelings from every space. When you walk in, there is a tiny corridor to the middle of the house disposition with a closet for clothes, door to the toilet and hidden entrance to the basement where you can find all the technical systems of the house. As you walk further you appear in the dining room with a view to the garden and exposed beams in the ceiling. On the right side stands opening to the kitchen, on the left side the exactly the same opening to the living room. The keystone of the kitchen is the kitchen island in the middle of the space and the free height above it. The kitchen has an open ceiling and you can see the exact shape of the roof.

The living room is spectacular with its double-height to the next floor and a stunning 6 m high window that leads to the garden. The old fireplace was redesigned to the contemporary minimalistic concrete bench with wooden print on its surface. The fire starts after pushing the button in your phone of course, but let’s talk about it later 😉 The TV room and the study room are situated on the south part of the house that is gently connected with the front garden where you can enjoy the sun during the day. The first floor is designed for the owners. It considers the master bedroom with open bathroom, the guest room and working space in the gallery of the living room. You can work and be amazed by the view from the gallery to the garden through the already mentioned window. The third floor is for children, they have almost the same two rooms with inbuilt closet and small bathroom.

Materialization | We really enjoyed the selection of the materials together with the client. All the selected materials were considered in many options and combinations to keep the renovation mansion Bussum the soul of the existing building to create the very best result. You can see pure love to the natural oak floor with 30 cm wide planks on the floor. It appears on more places in the house like the lining of the working space in the gallery of the living room or as the door of the inbuilt cabinets of the children rooms in herringbone style. You can find also industrial elements such as steel beams above openings or exposed walls in the ground floor. The special chapter is the windows. They are made out of the steel, just 3 cm thick frames appear as esthetically perfect fit for the mansion in Bussum. They give a special feeling to the relation between outside and inside space.

Everything is controlled by the app of the residents such as lights, heating, ventilation system and everything you can imagine. The sustainable concept of the mansion is provided by this app and the exact use of every Watt of electric energy in the house. The heat pump, decentral balanced ventilation system, newly insulated outside walls and new windows provide the perfect inner climate for the residents.
