Atrium Court house Schapenatjesduin

In response to the Vos 15 locale context, our architectural proposition materializes as the Inner Patio House Schapenatjesduin, a manifestation of the client’s aspirations. Enveloped within contemporary design principles, this architectural composition features four discrete volumes, artfully congregated around a soaring atrium – the “internal atrium” – boasting an impressive vertical clearance of 6 meters. This central nucleus serves as the residence’s epicenter, providing seamless access to all habitation zones.

Inspired by the allure of Ibiza’s architectural vernacular, the clients sought a contemporary villa that echoes its essence. This vision is realized through the fusion of robust pergolas and pristine white stucco volumes, capturing Ibizan aesthetics and reinterpreting them through a modern Dutch lens.

In the imminent landscape of 2017, The Hague municipality is poised to unveil 55 customizable plots, catering to diverse housing typologies: 17 waterfront detached residences on Vos plots, 30 semi-detached homes on Egel plots, and 8 patio houses on Haas plots nestled amidst the dunes. This initiative champions inclusivity, empowering individuals to manifest architectural dreams on their designated parcels.

Harmonizing with ecological nuances, life at Schapenatjesduin epitomizes symbiotic coexistence between habitat and environment, positioned at the crossroads of forest and dunes. Outdoor realms encompass courtyards and terraces, adhering to the edict of “no gardens in the dunes.” A central dune lake serves as a natural nucleus, harmonizing architectural elements with organic contours.

Sustainable building

Sustainability underpins the blueprint, delineated within the lot passport. A net-zero energy performance coefficient (EPC) of 0.0 underscores sustainable construction, culminating in an all-electric home, devoid of gas dependencies, primed for future exigencies.

The ground level of Inner Patio House Schapenatjesduin encompasses three distinct volumes, each intricately connected with an outdoor expanse, uniquely oriented to solar traverse. This arrangement fosters sunlit mornings in the kitchen, afternoon radiance in the living room, and sunset vistas in the dining and adjacent space.

Seamless interior-exterior interplay unfolds gradually, weaving a dynamic narrative wherein indoor and outdoor “patios” converge, endowing residents with a spatial symphony. These open-air sanctuaries are thoughtfully crafted to embrace solar trajectories, ensuring sun-soaked relaxation throughout the day.

Construction employs passive building blocks, facilitated by Jongerius construction from Kwintsheul. This Lego-brick-like Neopor system assures precision through studs, negating thermal bridging. Infill concrete results in dual insulation within a single action, complemented by 20 photovoltaic panels, heat recovery, and a subterranean heat pump, yielding an impressive EPC of 0. Façade dressing involves pristine white exterior plaster and untreated western red cedar slats, juxtaposed against sleek black aluminum frames. Concrete terraces and cedar pergolas punctuate outdoor spaces.

Within, an expansive open-plan interior centers around a modern kitchen. The atrium hosts dining, while a steel staircase with oak treads accesses the capacious bedroom level. Strategically positioned lower, the living area forges a direct connection with the dune lake, its 3.3-meter internal height imbuing grandeur.
